Dal (Musoor Dal) with fried Rice/ Dal (Musoor Dal)med Stegte Ris

This dish is very simple, but so delicious. I have always loved Indian food and this illustrates why. Colorful and flavorful in abundance. SO good and healthy too.

Red Lentils with Fried Rice (Ghee Bhat)
(4 servings – if part of a buffet 6)

325 g basmati rice, boiled and cold
3 tbsp rapseed oil (with butter taste ifpossible)
2 bay leaf
5 cm whole cinnamon
4 cardemom seeds
3 large onion, in thin slices
3 green chilis, cut at lenghts
1 tsp salt
½ tsp sugar
2 tbsp raisins (optional, but I suggest you don’t)

  • Boil the lentils i 1 l of water in a large pot
  • Skim the frot of the surface
  • Add turmeric, cumin and tomatoes and stir in with the lentils
  • Reduce the heat. Put the lid on to cover half the pot and let the lentils simmer for app. 40 min. until tender
  • Add salt, chillies, and coriander leaves and stir in with the lentils
  • Remove the pot from the heat
  • Heat the oil in a small caaserol. Add garlic and onion and fry till golden
  • Poor over the lentils and seve with the rice

Mine is in Danish, but you might get that and the English 2nd. hand. If you like vegetarian and Indian it is certainly wroth buying.
